how many sq feet is an acre and - if an acre were a perfect square ,,what would be the distance[size] of each side...??

43560 ft^2 (640 acres per sq mile)
if square, just take square root ~208.7 feet on a side.
In metric units, 0.404686 ha

At least in the US, builders cheat on the definition, and 40000+ square feet is usually a "builder's acre"
