Somewhere between seven and twenty. Salt lake has seven/mile, new youk is 20/mile for streets (short blocks) while the avenues are much further apart (long blocks). Portland, on the other hand, is laid out in a 200 foot grid.

In many large eastern cities, a City Block is a standard 1/20 of a mile. That is, there is that much space between the centerlines of the streets in grid-platted parts of the city.
