Dear convert-me.com forum visitors,

Our forum has been available for many years. In September 2014 we decided to switch it to read-only mode. Month after month we saw less posts with questions and answers from real people and more spam posts. We were spending more and more resources cleaning the spam until there were less them 1 legitimate message per 100 spam posts. Then we decided it's time to stop.

All the posts in the forum will be available and searchable. We understand there are a lot of useful information and we aren't going to remove anything. As for the new questions, you can always ask them on convert-me.com FaceBook page

My boss want micrograms from microliters

Postby desiuny » Fri May 20, 2005 10:09 pm

How do i get 3 ug out of a 1mg/ml solution?

Everytime he says i need to put 3 ug or 2 ug or whatever, i don't know what to do. It's so frustrating.

I know that if the solution is 1ug/ml then 1 ug = 1uL

So how do i do it when the solution is 1mg/mL?

Please help me, i'm desperate, it's a new job and i don't want to sound ignorant but i forgot how to do it and i don't want him to think that i'm incompetent by asking him.

Thanks!

Actually if it were 1 ug/mL, then 1 ug would equal 1 mL.

At the present concentration, you get 1 mg = 1000 ug per milliliter. If you only want 3 ug, you'd have to measure 0.003 mL, which I don't think is practical. You need to dilute your solution.

If you took 1 mL of the 1mg/mL solution and diluted it in enough distilled water to make 1 L, then it would be 1 mg/L or 1 ug/mL, and you'd need 3 mL to get 3 ug of substance.
