I had no idea what it was until another poster's question contained a bit of a hint it was about shipping. That gave me some terms to Google.

It stands for cubic meters and is used by the shipping industry. It can apply to individual boxes, pallets or standardized shipping containers (those things loaded on container ships). It is a nonstandard abrreviation, and not correct SI usage, which would be m³, or m^3 in character sets that don't have superscripts. International shipping rates can be based on both volume and weight, or figured both ways and take the larger.

For a box, measure length, height, and width in meters (or move decimal to convert from centimeters), and multiply. You have "cbm."

For larger shipments of many boxes, just add the volumes together (also the weights)

Measure the boxes in meters (or centimeters and move decimal two places). Multiply the three numbers. Done.

You can also convert the inch dimensions to meters (1" = 0.0254 m)

Well, don't measure in inches, measure in meters (or centimeters)

0.483 m x 0.483 m x 0.305 m x 500 = 35.6 m^3. How simple is that?

Hi Vicky...
The CBM of a consignment is always calculated: "L x W x H". This idea is to calculate CBM in metres so convert your measurement in meters first.
You can also convert in inch by calculating 1" = 0.0254 m.

Hi, to calculate CBM. Measure the Carton from Cubic Dimension i.e Length X Width X Height in Inches.

For Example 15 X 18 X 22"= 5940 inches then Multiply it with number of cartons
5940 Inches x 100 Cartons = 594000 Inches , now Divide inches with International Standard Formula to Calculate CBM.
594000 inches / 61023(Standard For Worldwide) = 9.73CBM. ( CBM Also called M3)

Hope this will help you guys, if need any info, can contact me asimjamalpk at hotmail
