Dear convert-me.com forum visitors,

Our forum has been available for many years. In September 2014 we decided to switch it to read-only mode. Month after month we saw less posts with questions and answers from real people and more spam posts. We were spending more and more resources cleaning the spam until there were less them 1 legitimate message per 100 spam posts. Then we decided it's time to stop.

All the posts in the forum will be available and searchable. We understand there are a lot of useful information and we aren't going to remove anything. As for the new questions, you can always ask them on convert-me.com FaceBook page

Thank you for being with us and sorry for any inconveniences this could caused.

You're not really converting it, by freight charges consider both weight and volume, and charge whichever results in the highest charge. You generally need to know both the weight and the volume.

For airfreight, the breakpoint is a density of 0.1667 kg/L (or t/m³). If they charge by volume and a 1 m³ shipment exceeds 167 kg, they will switch and charge by weight.

If they charge by weight, but a 167 kg shipment occupies more than 1 m³, they will switch and charge by volume.

For truck and sea shipments, I think the rate structure is less universal and you need to ask your shipper, but 333 kg/m³ is common for truck and 1000 kg/m³ for sea shipment break points.

The two cannot really be related by most metrics. However, the answer is 1000 lol :)
