Shane, it depends on what size shoe you wear!

Linear (adj.):

Of, relating to, or resembling a line; straight.
1. In, of, along, describing, described by, or related to a straight line: a “linear foot”.
2. Having only one dimension.

A linear foot is a measurement in one dimension. It has no width or height, only length. The line can be curved but it’s still one dimensional.

1 foot is 12 linear inches, 1 yard is 3 linear feet, 1 mile is 5280 linear feet, etc.
