converting mph to fps

how do u get 20mph to feet per second? please give answer!

20 mi/h x 5280 ft/1 mi x 1 hr/3600 s = 29.33 ft/s

note that 5280/3600 reduces to 22/15 and 22 fps/15 mph can be used directly as a conversion constant.

should that be a division and not multiplication

No, it should not. Write all the divisions (/) as fractions above and below a big horizontal bar. You'll better be able to see the unit cancellation that makes it all work out. The "slashes" make it hard to follow.

Just DIVIDE any MPH by .6818181818 and it will be FPS

Try it: 60MPH / .6818181818 = 88FPS

20MPH / .6818181818 = 29.33FPS

divide mph by 15 and multiply the product by 22...done.


MPH/15x22=FPS
