Dear convert-me.com forum visitors,

Our forum has been available for many years. In September 2014 we decided to switch it to read-only mode. Month after month we saw less posts with questions and answers from real people and more spam posts. We were spending more and more resources cleaning the spam until there were less them 1 legitimate message per 100 spam posts. Then we decided it's time to stop.

All the posts in the forum will be available and searchable. We understand there are a lot of useful information and we aren't going to remove anything. As for the new questions, you can always ask them on convert-me.com FaceBook page

Thank you for being with us and sorry for any inconveniences this could caused.

Suggestion for energy units

Postby Simon Graffe » Mon Feb 19, 2007 5:13 am

In this era when concerns about alternative energies abound, reading on this subject sometimes one comes across units related to the energy content of coal, gas, oil, etc: barrel of oil equivalent vs MWh, energy per gallon of gasoline or petro diesel, etc. It is necessary to convert between these units in order to compare figures.

For example, how many barrels of oil equivalent are equivalent to an electric generation of 2000 MWH? How to compare the energy input of some generator that consumes X amount of diesel vs another consuming X amount of natural gas?

Thank you
Simon Graffe

I might be wrong, but I am not sure there could be a direct conversion for these things. The conversion probably depends on the process and equipment being used. If you can point me to some source of information on such conversions, I'd appreciate that.

Thank you for the feedback anyway.
