Dear convert-me.com forum visitors,

Our forum has been available for many years. In September 2014 we decided to switch it to read-only mode. Month after month we saw less posts with questions and answers from real people and more spam posts. We were spending more and more resources cleaning the spam until there were less them 1 legitimate message per 100 spam posts. Then we decided it's time to stop.

All the posts in the forum will be available and searchable. We understand there are a lot of useful information and we aren't going to remove anything. As for the new questions, you can always ask them on convert-me.com FaceBook page

Thank you for being with us and sorry for any inconveniences this could caused.

CPM to Rem

Since CPM is used to measure particulate radition such as alpha you don't need to convert it. Alpha is only dangerous if you inhale, swallow, or absorb it through open wounds. Rem is the dose of raditation your body is getting. With alpha (assuming you are protected) you shouldn't be exposed to any rem.

CPM is also used RIGHT NOW to measure GAMMA radionucleides. An EPA gamma detection station, RadNet, near here, is measuring 5000 Counts per minute constantly for the past month of a particular radionucleide, and also 8 other radionucleides that range from 100 to 2000 cpm.

These high counts started after the nuclear explosions at the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant in Mid March 2011.

We have a right to know what the meaurements are of radioactive isotopes existing in our foods, and what the safe limit is, TECHNICALLY, there is no safe limit when it comes to radioactive isotopes because a single atom can begin an irreversible reaction within our bodies leading to various cancers.

I make use of Geiger-Mueller detector. In general it depends on the kind of detector being used and on the type of radiation being measured.
