Converting from liquid measurement to weight measurement

Postby sw » Sun Aug 26, 2007 1:54 am

I need to convert 50 mg liquid measurement and convert it to a percentage of the total net WEIGHT measurement of a 2 fl oz bottle of liquid. Does that make sense? It's confusing me! The bottle has 2 fluid ozs in it, and 50 mg of various ingredients, and I have to convert the ingredient list to a percentage of the bottle's net WEIGHT. The more I think about it, the more confused I get....HELP??? Thanks for any feedback....

Somebody needs to tell you the density of the liquid in the bottle.

Not all liquids are the same. Ethanol is about 0.8 g/mL (gasoline is lighter still, but unlikely to be in medicine), water is 1.00 g/mL, but salty water can be 1.03 g/mL, highly concentrated sugar syrup could be 1.1 g/mL or more.

You also probably want to convert the 2 fl oz to milliliters so you are not mixing metric and "english" units.

You have about 59 mL of liquid, but depending on what it is, it could easily weigh anything from 49 to 65 g, using the numbers outlined above.

Converting from liquid measurement to weight measurement

Postby sw » Sun Aug 26, 2007 2:56 am

I haven't been provided the liquid's density information, so I am "assuming" it is that of water....but thanks for the heads-up re that additional detail! Assuming the density of water, how do you convert 50 mg of liquid measurement into OZS in WEIGHT measurement? Thanks for your help!

I wouldn't. I'd convert the 2 floz to 59 mL, then to 59 g. Then 50 mg/59 g = 0.000847, or roughly 0.085%.
