I just found out that I shipped off 462,360 lbs of Nickel wastewater last year...my analytical shows 2690 mg/kg of nickel in the waste...how many pounds of nickel would I have sent out in the 462,360 lbs of wastewater...i'm stumped. How would this be calculated.

462360 lb x 0.4536 kg/lb = 209726.5 kg of waste water
209726.5 kg x 2690mg/kg = 564 kg of nickel

564 kg x 1lb/0.4536 kg = 1244 lb of nickel
(obviously, if you measured in metric, two conversions would be saved)

so 10 mg/ kg is 50 ppm. Same goes for mg/L.

10 mg/L is 10 ppm.

hope this helps.

SORRY!!!!! 10 mg/kg is 10 ppm NOT 50,

10 mg/100kg=how much ppm?

Serious

If you are seriously putting your homework here and asking basic unit conversion questions then the best thing to do is go to a website, type in your starting number, change the units to what you want, and get your answer.

There are heaps of free websites that will convert units for you.

If you really want to learn how to do it, don't ask for the answer here. I have read all the replies on here and I can tell you most of them are WRONG.

I suggest learning how to multiple or divide by 1000, and then learning what all the prefixes mean.

Here are the basic ones
Kilo (k)= 1000 (a thousand)
milli (m) = 1/1000 or 0.001 (a thousandth)
micro (u) = 1/1000000 (a millionth)

TO go up you need to divide by 1000 for each step. To go down you need to multiple by 1000.

Percentage (%) is the same as parts per hundred.

To change from ppm to % you need to divide by 10000 (ten thousand)
i.e. 10000ppm is the same as 1%

The tricky part is that a kilogram (kg) of (pure) water is the same as a liter (L) in terms of parts per million (weight/volume). Get over that tricky part and you can do the rest.

Or just use an online unit converter and don't worry about it.

If this is for your science test, then give up, science is not for you.

Postby Dordhs » Wed Mar 31, 2010 12:09 am

hey guys I was wondering if I could get some help/info. first let me say I had all this info before stored on a laptop I had stolen about a year ago and wasnt needed again until recently.

Anyways, does anyone have a rough average in PPM parts per million of the standard USA Lrg. GM catalytic converter, or what about USA foreign/imports converter contents?

thanks

Linear, in this context, simply means a line. It has no width and no depth, it only denotes length.

A linear foot is a line 1 foot long, so 12 in = 1 ft.

There are 1 000 000 mg in 1 kg, so: 5211 mg / 1 000 000 = ?

I need to know how to apply 1 part calcium hypochlorite to 100 parts water for water treatment in a 1 liter/quart bottle. I want to make a concentrate of calcium hypochlorite in a small bottle to treat wild water, so I need to know how many drops to put into a quart/liter. I also need to know the amount of the concentrate to mix. Thanks for any help you can give me.

here is the answer for this question
1kg=1000gm and
1gm=1000mg
so,
1kg=1000,000mg
and 1mg=1/1000,000kg
so 5211mg=5211/1000,000kg
0.005211kg
