Dear convert-me.com forum visitors,

Our forum has been available for many years. In September 2014 we decided to switch it to read-only mode. Month after month we saw less posts with questions and answers from real people and more spam posts. We were spending more and more resources cleaning the spam until there were less them 1 legitimate message per 100 spam posts. Then we decided it's time to stop.

All the posts in the forum will be available and searchable. We understand there are a lot of useful information and we aren't going to remove anything. As for the new questions, you can always ask them on convert-me.com FaceBook page

Thank you for being with us and sorry for any inconveniences this could caused.

How do you convert metric density ( Kg/m3) to Specific Gravity? Example: 1500 Kg/m3 = 2.65 specific gravity?

Err, as far as I know, 1500 kg/m³ = a specific gravity of 1.5.

See Relative density @ Wikipedia for more info.

Specific Gravity

Postby Jens » Sat Dec 31, 2005 5:27 am

To add to that:

specific gravity is based on water wich has a specific gravity of

1.0000 grams per milliliter or 1.0 gr/ml;
or
1.0000 grams per cubic centimeter or 1.0 gr/cc

if materials are lighter then the number is lower than 1.0
(corn oil has a specific gravity of 0.922 gr/cc)

and

heaveir items (such as what you have would be grater than 1. 0

The rest is strictly a matter of converting your metric units to get the units you wish to work with.
