Dear convert-me.com forum visitors,

Our forum has been available for many years. In September 2014 we decided to switch it to read-only mode. Month after month we saw less posts with questions and answers from real people and more spam posts. We were spending more and more resources cleaning the spam until there were less them 1 legitimate message per 100 spam posts. Then we decided it's time to stop.

All the posts in the forum will be available and searchable. We understand there are a lot of useful information and we aren't going to remove anything. As for the new questions, you can always ask them on convert-me.com FaceBook page

Thank you for being with us and sorry for any inconveniences this could caused.

scfm is the flow rate "adjusted" to standard" conditions. The standard pressure is usually 1 atm. but the standard temperature varies by industry and country, but is likely to be 0, 15, or 20 degrees C, or 60, 68, or 70 degrees F. Step one is to use ideal gas law to convert it back to actual cfm at the actual temperature and pressure. (Remember 1 atm is only 1 atm at sea level on a nice day)

Step 2 is the gas must be flowing through some duct or tube with a well defined cross-sectional area. Divide the volumetric flow rate (cfm) by the cross sectional area, in square feet. This gives you the linear flow rate in feet/minute.

Step 3, there are 60 minutes in an hour, and 5280 feet in a mile. Multiply by the ratio 60/5280, which reduces to 1/88 (or divide by 88). 1 mph = 88 ft/min.

WRONG!

SCFM = Standard Cubic Feet per Minute
MPPH = Million Pounds Per Hour

This is a mass flow rate, not a duct velocity.

MPPH = SCFM * (mass of air in Pound/FT^3 at actual conditions) * (60 Minutes / 1 Hour)
