using insulin syringe for antigen

Postby lin5123 » Wed Oct 05, 2005 10:27 pm

I need to use insulin syringes 50 unit/U-100 insulin for allergy antigen.
I need to take 0.10 cc of antigen. The syringe is marked off by each 5 units. How does a unit convert to a cc? Thanks

U-100 insulin has a strength of 100 units per cc or milliliter(they are the same thing). The syringe is marked directly in units, so 1 mL = 100 units. Since you need 0.1 mL, you need
0.1 mL x 100 units/1 mL = 10 units.

CAUTION: A syringe for any other strength of insulin such as U-40 is different. A U-40 syring, for example, would be marked according to 40 units = 1 mL.
