converting 1 kilogram of sugar to volume measurment

We have a receipe from Italy that calls for 1 kilogram of sugar. Would you please convert it to a volume measurement.

That's a lot of sugar. 39.83 fl. oz., 2.49 pints or 11.78 deciliters. Unless you're wanting to cut the recipe down, it would be easier to simply weigh the sugar.
