wire gauge conversion

Postby andrewtrux@cs.com » Fri Feb 01, 2008 1:47 am

How do I convert a wire gauge to millimeters.

Need to convert 15 gauge and 18 gauge to mm.
(I know 15 gauge is not a standard size, but I
do need the conversion on both 15 and 18 gauge.

Can someone help?

Thanks,

36 AWG has a diameter of 0.005" or 0.127 mm
0000 AWG (treat as -3) is 92 X larger (0.46")

It is a geometric series:

d/0.005" = d/0.127 mm = 92^((36-AWG)/39)

plugging in, 18 AWG = 0.0403" = 1.02 mm

If you Google "american wire gauge" you cn find plenty of pre-computed tables/
