I need a formula for the conversion of cubic inches for steel to lbs.

According to this page, there are different types of steel with different specific gravities. We'll assume stainless steel (7.7).

Code: Select all
        16.39 cm³   7.7 g   0.002205 lb
1 in³ × --------- × ----- × ----------- = 0.278277615 lb
          1 in³     1 cm³       1 g


Therefore, to convert from cubic inches (of stainless steel) to pounds, multiply by 0.278277615 (or 0.2783).

.2833 lbs per sq inch is close enough for shipping requirements
