American Butter

I keep finding wonderful recipes on epicurious.com but so many have 1 or, 3/4 of, or 2 and a 1/2 sticks of butter. Us poor chefs "down under" in Sunny Australia have no idea what a stick of butter is or how much it weighs, in imperial or metric..... Please advise... Thanking you already...

A pound of butter is divided into four sticks, each weighing 0.25 lb (about 113 g). The sticks are individually wrapped in waxed paper, a scale is printed on the paper to facilitate cutting off pieces by length, in teaspoon and tablespoon increments. The butter is slightly whipped so a stick has a volume of 4 fl oz or 0.5 cup. Thus the stick is 8 tablespoons or 24 teaspoons. (We may have a different tablespoon, ours is about 15 mL, and a teaspoon about 5 mL)
