What are "house squares?" You have to better describe the "23 squares" you are starting with. How big are they in some units?

House squares appears to be an Australian (and possibly UK) measure, and is a measure the US knows nothing about. According to the pinkbatts site, one house square is about 3x3 m, which would make it 100 sq ft.

Multiply your house sqaures by .93 then shift decimal point one place to right
ie: 23 multiplied by .93 equals 21.39. Shift decimal pint one to right and you have 213.9 sqauares (approx)

Conversion of squares etc

Postby Keith » Sun Sep 25, 2005 10:47 am

Saw your query.

Start with 39.37 inches = 1 metre.

That is, 1 square metre = 10.76 square feet.

So 9.3 square metres = 100 square feet.

Now a square is exactly 10 feet x 10 feet = 100 square feet.

Therefore 1 square = 9.3 square metres.

And 23 squares = 23 x 9.3 = 213.9 square metres.

All of these figures are correct to 2 decimal places.

house measurement in squares

Postby pom » Sat Feb 10, 2007 4:52 am

This seems to be an Australian thing.
Estate agents quote living space in squares so you need the conversion method.
As a pom I have found this conversion information invaluable. Thanks.
Dwelling area in m2, divided by 9.3 gives you the number in squares.
Your actual dwelling area can be found on your rates bill in Victoria, so no need to go around with a tape measure! :D

23 squares

Squares when used in describing the size of a house refers to 100 square feet. One hundred square feet (1 square) = 100 ft² = 9.29030 m²
2300 ft² = 23 squares = 213.676 m²

To convert m2 to ft2, multiply by 10.7639

13.7 m2 * 10.7639 = 147.47 ft2

multiply your 23 squares by 9.29 = 213.67 sqm

a square is in old terms 10feet by 10feet which is now ............ in metres 3.048m X 3.048m or 9.29

cheers

In building a square is 3.048m x 3.048m
so multiply your house squares by 9.29
23 x 9.29
= 213.67square metres

if you have square metres you divide by 9.29 to get squares

cheers
