Height in feet and meters?

Postby Maritza » Wed Mar 19, 2008 10:48 am

I'm having problems converting human height in most conversion calculators because whenever I try to convert 5 feet 9 inches in meters, it usually will give me something like, 1.82 meters, which is 5 feet 11 inches, no? If I enter 5'10 or 5'11 in inches, it will give me an equivalent for 5 feet 1 inch. So is there any way I can get the exact equivalents in meters for human height in feet??

Two ways:
1) Convert the feet and inches separately, add together:
Feet*0.3048 m/ft + Inches*0.0254 m/in
For 5'10"
5*0.3048 + 10*0.0254 = 1.778 m

2) Convert the inches to fractional feet by dividing by 12, add to the whole feet, then convert.
0.3048*(5 + 10/12) = 1.778 m

Actually a third way is convert the feet to inches, 5' = 60" plus 10" is 70 inches, 70*0.0254 = 1.778 m

Zahvaljujem se na Vasem objasnjenju. Znaci moja je visina:

1.89 cm = 6-2 ft

1*0.3048 + 2*0.254 = 1.89 cm
