all you need is "cubic feet"

don't forget all the measurements need to be in the same units - and that 6 inches is 0.5 feet.
So, multiply 25 x 115 x 0.5, and you need 1437.5 cubic feet of sand.

25 x 38 x 0.5 = 475 cubic feet.

Now - when you go to the landscape supply place, they only sell it by the "yard" (cubic yard, that is.) A cubic yard is 27 cubic feet - so you need 53 yards for the first area, and 18 yards for the second (that's a lot of sand).
