Pounds per sq ft calc

Postby pfirewolf@gmail.com » Thu Aug 16, 2007 5:24 am

I have a vertical tank 64" dia x 80" tall 1,000-gallons, the total tank weight with tank, water and fittings is 8800 lbs. I need to know how many pounds per square foot are exerted on the bottom of the tank. It is going in a parking garage and we need to know for structural purposes.

Thanks.

The tank diameter of 64" is 64/12 = 5.33 ft

The area of a circle is (pi/4)*d*d = 3.1416 x 5.33 * 5.33 = 89.4 sq ft.

8800 lb / 89.4 sq ft = 98.5 lb/sq ft.

Oops, I screwed up. Forgot to divide by 4.
The area is 22.35 sq ft, and loading is 393.7 lb/sq ft.
