Nm^3 is another common improper abbreviation. The N is not Newtons, it's "normal." Gases are compressible, so their volume depends on temperature and pressure which have to be specified to underatnand how much gas a given volume represents. Normal is usually 1 atm, 0 degrees C.. "Standard" is often used for 1 atm. and either 15 or 20 degrees C, so you have to be careful to determine the reference conditions actually being used.
