Dear convert-me.com forum visitors,

Our forum has been available for many years. In September 2014 we decided to switch it to read-only mode. Month after month we saw less posts with questions and answers from real people and more spam posts. We were spending more and more resources cleaning the spam until there were less them 1 legitimate message per 100 spam posts. Then we decided it's time to stop.

All the posts in the forum will be available and searchable. We understand there are a lot of useful information and we aren't going to remove anything. As for the new questions, you can always ask them on convert-me.com FaceBook page

Thank you for being with us and sorry for any inconveniences this could caused.

square feet to acre measurement

Postby hotcheyenne » Tue Jul 19, 2005 9:19 pm

I am looking to purchase a house with at least a half acre of land. Looking at the real estate listings however, they usually will have the land listed as 100 by 100 ft. lot. How do I convert that to a percentage of an acre?

An acre is 43560 sq ft. That 100' x 100' lot is 10000 sq ft (assuming it has 90 degree corners; weird quadrilaterals could be less).

While not official, there seems to be a smaller "builders acre" that makes allowances for easements, roads, etc. Divide a 100 acre field into 200 lots, they won't be 1/2 acre due to roads, etc, but it will be half a "builder's acre." Ask for the sq footage.

100 X 100 = 10000 sq. ft. One acre is 43560 sq. ft. So devide 10000 by 43560 = .2299568 = approx. 22.9 % or just under a quarter of an acre.
